What Does Amazing Grace Believe?

At Amazing Grace, we take Christ's words seriously, "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him" (John 3:17 ESV). Every person has made mistakes. God is holy and people are not. In spite of this fact, God chose to love humanity.

Christ's purpose in coming to earth was not just to "save" people from their sins. God has promised to take away the old life and do something very special-"...those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun!" (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT). We at Amazing Grace believe that a new direction and purpose is possible through Christ's amazing grace. Sometimes people say they "believe in Jesus" but their lives do not reflect a changed life. They cling to the old life with its struggle for power, wealth, status, and pleasure. We believe that it is each believer's choice to daily seek to be renewed in the image of Jesus Christ. We cannot reach perfection in this life, but we can cast off the old ways that lead to our own destruction and embrace the leading of the Holy Spirit.

What we believe should change our attitudes towards God and others. Therefore, our "Statement of Faith" is more than a doctrinal study that is cold and dead. God has revealed His truths to us in the 66 books of the Bible. Our "Statement of Faith" is based upon God's eternal truths in Scripture and not upon humanity's tradition or denominational emphases. While no one at Amazing Grace Church is holy as God is holy, we seek to be filled with God's love and grace that we might become more and more like our Savior Jesus Christ.

God's revelation is progressive and speaks to our understanding and interpretation of past revelations of God. Therefore, we believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ is central to our faith and daily living.

Confession of Faith

I believe in Christ's Amazing Grace that set me free!

I believe the Bible is God’s inspired final authority in my life.

I believe God loves me and wants me to love God with all my heart

and to love others as myself.

I believe God’s best plans for me are yet to come.

(John 3:16; 2 Timothy 3:16; Matthew 22:37-39; Jeremiah 29:11-14  ESV)

Statement  of  Faith

THE BIBLE, composed of 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is God’s unique and final authority for instruction regarding salvation and the practice of the Christian faith.  Our faith is based solely upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Scripture.  The Bible is without error in its original manuscripts and no other writings are similarly inspired by God.

GOD is one Lord!  God is holy and has revealed his eternal existence in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

GOD THE FATHER, the eternal first person of the trinity, created the universe and our world through His divine power and providence.  God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to earth to fulfill prophecies of a Messiah who would come and save God’s people from their sin.  Jesus commanded believers to pray to God as “Our Father”.

GOD THE SON, JESUS CHRIST, the eternal second person of the trinity, has existed eternally in heaven.  Jesus left His glory in heaven and was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to the virgin, Mary.  Therefore, Jesus became fully human as well as being fully divine.  Jesus in total submission to God the Father, died upon a cross as a substitute for all people.  Jesus satisfied divine judgment.  Three days later Jesus arose, defeating death, showing himself to the apostles and five hundred followers at one time.  Jesus ascended into heaven promising to return to judge the world.  He is the only hope of salvation for sinners.  Today, Jesus sits at the right hand of God the Father and is the only intercessor between God and humans.

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT, the eternal third person of the trinity, was sent to believers by Jesus.  The Holy Spirit causes sinners to recognize their sins and repent, to receive faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  He indwells every believer and brings assurance of salvation. The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts and abilities to each believer as He chooses.  He directs every believer in their understanding of Scripture and guides them in daily living to bear fruit to glorify God.  He brings the power of God to change lives, heal and strengthen those who seek to live by God’s purposes and commands.

SALVATION is God’s plan.  Humanity was created to be in relationship with God.   But from the beginning of human history, people have chosen to rebel against God.  The relationship between God and humanity could only be restored by God’s amazing grace which is a free gift through Jesus Christ.  Salvation is God’s work and cannot be earned by human endeavor.  Anyone who Admits they are sinners, Believes in Jesus as Savior, and Commits self to follow Jesus Christ as Lord becomes a child of God.  Believers in Jesus Christ are promised peace that they can know they are children of God and have full assurance they will spend eternity with the Lord.

THE CHURCH is comprised of believers in local congregations under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  Believers come together for worship, prayer, instruction of Scripture; to observe Baptism and Communion as commanded by Jesus Christ.  The Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to support the ministry of the local congregation in their community and around the world.  God calls pastors, elders, and deacons to lead the congregation.  Members are to work together in love and unity to glorify God.

THE PRIESTHOOD OF THE BELIEVER obligates Christians to a ministry of God’s “Amazing Grace” to reconcile all sinners regardless of race, gender, age, class or sin to the Lord.

THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST will happen at a time appointed by God the Father.  Jesus will return to receive believers into heaven and judge the world.

                                                 Our Core Values

Jesus valued lost people!  Luke records Christ claiming His core values from the Prophet Isaiah:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
                                                                            Because He anointed Me
to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are downtrodden,
To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."

                                                                   (Luke 4:18-19; Isaiah 61.1-2 ESV)
